Why an AR15?

There are many reasons why the AR-15 styled platform rifle is the most popular rifle in America. The AR stands for Armalite Rifle, as named by the manufacturer of the original design, Armalite. Armalite’s design dates back to the 1950s.

According to the National Sporting Shooting Federation (NSSF) over five million Americans own an AR type rifle.  The AR15 and its big brother the AR10 are a rifle platform. They can be modified to meet all types of shooter preferences, wants, and needs. The AR family of firearms consists of rifle, carbine, and pistol configurations. AR15s also comes chambered in a wide variety of ammunition. Here are my Top 7 reasons to own an AR15 style rifle or carbine.

Self-Defense                                

I have no problem using an AR styled rifle for self-defense. The AR15 platform is a proven design with a long proven history. It’s easy to learn, easy to use, and easy to maintain. It’s a reliable rifle that’s  proven in many different environments around the world. AR15 AR10 ammunition is plentiful, accessories are many, and if that’s not enough, the AR design is still in use by our military today. If it isn’t broken, why fix it!

Recreation

The AR styled rifle, carbine, or pistol is fun to shoot at any distance. From plinking to precision shooting, the AR family of products pretty much does it all. Empty cans, jugs filled with water, and paper targets all need to beware!

Learning

For example, an AR15 is a great rifle to learn the fundamentals of shooting because of its simple operation and lower recoil. The right muzzle break will make handling recoil even better. You configure the AR15 to any shooter by using an adjustable stock.

Hunting

The AR-15 and its big brother, the AR-10, are excellent hunting rifles. AR-15s are perfect for varmint and predator hunting. They are also used to hunt deer. The AR-15 and AR10 can also be chambered in a number of other more powerful cartridges for longer range shooting and taking a much bigger game.

Farm/Ranch Use

The AR-15 is an excellent all-around rifle for farmers and ranchers to carry for predator control. For example, the .308-chambered AR-10 is a proven platform against feral hogs and used by many of our customers to deal with this nuisance animal that causes billions of dollars’ worth of damage each year.

Competitive Shooting

The AR platform is excellent for competitive shooting sports. One of my favorite competitions is watching shooters in a 3-gun event (rifle, shotgun, and pistol). It’s impressive what these competitors can do safely and accurately. It gives you an idea of the level of skill you can attain with the right instruction and training.

Disaster Preparedness

Let’s face it; the government can’t protect everyone at once. You need to be ready to take care of yourself and your family in an emergency situation.  Just remember Hurricane Katrina where things got beyond crazy. The AR platform has proven its design in combat, hunting, and competition. It will help you protect your family until help does arrive. My service in the Army taught me it’s better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
